Ant man and the Wasp is a sequel to 2015’s Ant-Man. It is the twentieth Marvel Cinema Universe (MCU) movie to gain a certified fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The stars in the movie are Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly acting alongside Michael Peña, Walton Goggins, Bobby Cannavale, Judy Greer, Tip “T.I.” Harris, David Dastmalchian, Hannah John-Kamen, Abby Ryder Fortson, Randall Park, Michelle Pfeiffer, Laurence Fishburne, and Michael Douglas.
Peyton Reed, who directed the first Ant Man also directed this. It is looking like he did a much better job with Ant-Man and the Wasp than its preceding sequel. He is known to direct comedies like ‘Bring it on’.
Scott Lang (Ant-Man), played by Paul Rudd, is a former petty criminal who acquired a suit that allows him shrink or grow in size while also increasing in strength. In this Sequel, Scott Lang tries to balance his home life as a father with his responsibilities as Ant-man. Paul Rudd expressed his interest in the Scott Lang character thus, “a superhero that is not innately heroic or super in any way… just, you know, a regular person.”
When Hope Van Dyne and Hank Pym present him with a new mission to uncover secrets from their past, Lang teams up with Van Dyne as the new Wasp.
Hope Van Dyne (wasp), played by Evangeline Lilly, is the daughter of Hank Pym and Janet Van Dyne; who is passed the Wasp mantle from her mother and receives a similar suit. The writers had a filled time showing fully formed, who Hope was as a superhero; her power set, how she fights, and what are the injustices that matter to her that she wants to right. Lilly felt that by Van Dyne becoming the Wasp, there was “this incredible satisfaction in Hope, something that she has been wanting for her whole life, which is essentially an affirmation from her father has come.”
The movie has been praised for its charm, humor, as well as the performance of the leads (Rudd and Lilly).
