I watched the new Ghanaian crime drama KING OF T3MA over the weekend, and I can confidently say it’s unlike anything we’ve seen in the history of Ghanaian cinema. The film follows the story of Paa Kwesi, a young boy from a struggling but good home in Tema, who becomes desperate to save his mother’s life. In his attempt to raise money for her surgery, he gets pulled into the criminal underground of the city, a world built on betrayal, survival, and power. One of the strongest elements of the film is the way the writers handle the subplots. Through the supporting characters, we get a layered look into the hidden workings of Tema’s underworld. In particular, Charles, Paa Kwesi’s estranged best friend, stands out. Deeply involved in an organization that controls the city’s drug trafficking and distribution, Charles represents a stark contrast to Paa Kwesi. Their dynamic is compelling: Paa Kwesi’s moral struggle versus Charles’s determination to rise at any cost. The conflict between them feels raw, real, and painfully relatable. The film’s portrayal of the underworld is elevated by memorable performances from Fred Amugi as Alhaji and Kingsley Yamoah as King. Their characters are powerful, grounded, and believable, anchoring the darker layers of the story. One thing that struck me was how the past and present lives of these characters mirror each other. The storytellers did an excellent job highlighting the cycles of life, how history tends to repeat itself, especially for those unaware of it. That thematic depth gives the film an unexpected emotional weight. Visually, the director’s choices were spot-on. The cinematography, from the color palette to the camera movement, feels deliberate and purposeful. The sound design and score are equally impressive, enhancing every moment with intention and emotion. In all, KING OF T3MA is a bold, gripping, and beautifully crafted film that pushes Ghanaian storytelling to a new level.

I watched “King of T3ma” and I loved every part of the movie. I think it’s time for Ghanaians to realize what we have in our cinema industry so we can take our stories beyond the country and into the diaspora. This film shows how much we have improved in our cinematic quality — from the visuals to the sound, and the acting skills. “King of T3ma” proves that we truly have a bright future in storytelling and filmmaking. I am very impressed with what Anibok and his team achieved with this movie. Great job to the entire team, and keep up the amazing work!

KING OF TEMA is the first feature film out of the city of TEMA and I'm proud and happy to say that it did not disappoint. It lived up to the hype. From the storyline, to the production and ofcourse excellent casting, I would say everything was on point. The Director, Kobina Degraft Johnson did an amazing job with selecting young upcoming actors and blending it with old and experienced actors. I enjoyed the movie from start to finish, there was never a dull moment and that made the whole experience worthwhile. Highly recommended 👌 💯

This was a well produced film with authentic storytelling. Great to see local language used to amplify the reality of life in Ghana. A crime drama in Tema! This was a good film and I recommend you go see it before it's gone!! Tema to the world!

Oh wow!!! I thought “King of Tema* will be one of those Ghanaian movies with good publicity but poor content, and thankfully that’s not the case at all. Really entertaining, bold and full of that Ghanaian flair we’ve been waiting for. Great storyline, solid performances, and visuals that keep you locked in. I like that there’s a little romance balancing the tension. If you haven’t seen it yet, grab a ticket people, this one deserves a big-screen experience!”
